Bay intelligence

The latest Bay read.

Two stat-backed varsity reads are live: Palos Verdes' contender check against Torrance and Redondo's rivalry shutout at Mira Costa.

Varsity finalPalos Verdes 33, Torrance 6

Palos Verdes did the contender chore.

Palos Verdes did what contenders have to do when the calendar says trap game: no mystery, no reset, just 33-6 over Torrance. Ellie Correa went 12-of-18 for 182 yards and four touchdowns, and the scoring map stayed wide: Audrey Goeppner caught two TDs, Addie Eroen and Ava McGovern each took one, and Kallen Pope's 58-yard catch kept the field stretched.

The sharper read is how PV separated without needing a perfect passing night. E. Kaneshiro flipped the game with a pick-six, five pass breakups, and eight pulls; Alexis LaMothe and Goeppner each had two sacks; Kennedy Baranick added six pulls. That is a contender profile: mistakes did not drag the game back into reach because the defense kept creating its own leverage.

Varsity finalRedondo Union 32, Mira Costa 0

Redondo made the rivalry feel air-tight.

Redondo's 32-0 at Mira Costa was not a generic shutout; it was control football. Blair Nolen went 21-of-23 for 338 yards and four touchdowns, the cleanest high-volume passing night on the Bay board. Ivy Brown turned six catches into 111 yards, Maya Miranda and Morgan Watts filled the intermediate windows, Kyndall Aguirre added a touchdown throw, and Marhea Rossow scored twice on two touches.

The zero had the same intelligence. Mira Costa never got to live in rhythm: Mayella Kumprey led the pursuit with seven pulls, Neliah Cardenas added five, Quinn Ziemniak took one away, and Sophia Licon and Michela Fuchs each got home for a sack. Redondo did not just beat a rival; it made the game feel like a field-position squeeze from start to finish.
